The European Universities Championships in Combat Sports are underway in Zagreb (Croatia) with Karate among the sports on the programme.

The event gathers over 1500 competitors representing 398 universities from 31 European countries in four combat sports (Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, and Kickboxing) and it will be held in Zagreb from July 20 to 23.

With young karatekas from all over Europe travelling to Zagreb to show their abilities, the Karate competition of the multi-sport event was unveiled Thursday after the general technical meeting and opening ceremony. The Karate event was headed by EKF General Secretary and President of the Croatian Karate Union Davor Cipek.

“This 2023 is a fantastic year for the EKF family, full of important activities and sports events. After the European Championships for Cadets, Juniors, and U21 in Cyprus, the European Senior Championships in Spain, and the 3rd European Games in Poland, the EUSA Combat 2023 is the fourth important major competition in a row in Europe.

“In this event, our athletes participate representing their universities. The exceptional cooperation between EKF and EUSA in recent years has led Karate to become one of the most popular sports in the EUSA competition programme.

“My sincere congratulations to the Croatian Academic Sports Association, the University of Zagreb, and the Croatian Karate Union for the excellent organisation,” said Davor Cipek who thanked WKF and EKF President Antonio Espinós for his support and leadership in the association with EUSA.
